Exhibition
The long-awaited presentation day finally came and I felt like a nervous wreck. Everything went quite well and I was really happy as to how my product turned out to be.
Sadly, I didn't take any pictures of the exhibition itself as I was quite rushing to get my explanation boards up and going, but I did take pictures of the final product alongside with the explanation board. Personally, I am quite happy as to how this assignment turned out. Albeit the mistakes such as wrong font colours and some minor folding issues when putting the boxes together.
But overall, I enjoyed working on this assignment as I really hope that make-up consumers will become more aware as to where the ingredients in their products came from and whether companies are going to work more to ensure that such issues would not occur in our modern-day production lines. While some big cosmetics companies such as the L’ORÉAL GROUP (owns brands such as L’Oréal Paris, Lancôme, Garnier, and Maybelline) and Coty Inc. (owns nail polishes brands such as Sally Hansen, Rimmel and OPI, and cosmetic brands such as CoverGirl and Max Factor) are some of the few companies in the cosmetics industry that has went to some measures to ensure that they would only be accepting ethically sourced Mica while simultaneously elevating the communities that they would source these Mica from.
The L’ORÉAL GROUP even went on to create a business guideline for all of their business partners stating their specific requirements for buying Mica and ensuring that child labour isn't used in the mines. Overall, my message for this assignment is merely to bring awareness rather than stopping the usage of Mica in cosmetics entirely as it does have some of its own benefits, such as not clogging one's pores as it is mineral-based and lightweight, and its dust has a very high concentration of shimmer to it. Thus, making it very sought after for cosmetics purposes. Bottom line, consumers should be more aware of the ingredients in their product and how they are gathered whereas companies should make an effort to source the ingredients from an ethical source rather than from a shady source that's the only goal is to make a buck while using the cheapest form of labour there is.
