Design-wise, I wanted to keep the colour palette to a minimum while also matching with my box design. I used red for the name to create a striking look, while also maintaining a sense of harmony between the logo and the red spider lily design.

To give off the imagery of a plant related product, I added some leaves imagery. And a circle in the background to tie all the elements together.

brand logo & design

esse /ˈɛsi/ stands for essential nature or essence.

I chose esse as the brand name as life and death is a topic synonymous with each other. And the meaning of esse well reflects the "synonymous" aspect of the said topic.

box packaging design

Since the box acts as the 'holder' for the randomized plant the customers are going to receive, I wanted to create a box packaging that exudes a mysterious yet eye-catching design. So I implemented dark colours whilst also using elements that could capture my overall theme of life and death. Hence the usage of red spider lily flowers and ribcage bones.

While the meaning for red spider lily varies slightly depending on the culture and belief. But overall, it's represents death and final goodbyes. Which I think works with my concept as should they fail in caring for the plant, they'll only be left with its decayed corpse.

As for the rib cage design, I want something that could represent both life and decay. And I find rib cage to suit said requirements.

When we're alive, it holds our organs together. But when we're dead, the organs decays away, leaving behind the empty shell of something that used to hold organs that helps keep us alive. So with that, I wanted the plant to be encased in such manner to create an imagery of life and rebirth.
